Dan Ireland

• Former Executive Director, Alabama Citizens Action Program (ALCAP), a grassroots lobbying organization in Montgomery.
• Helped lead anti-lottery effort in 1998 with Citizens Against Legalized Lottery (C.A.L.L.).
• C.A.L.L. was secretly funded with $300,000 of Mississippi Choctaw Casino dollars, funneled from Jack Abramoff through his associate, Grover Norquist.
• Ireland was turned down by the Casino Magic Casino in the 1990's when he attempted to extract more Mississippi Gaming funds for his efforts in Alabama.
• In the recent past, Ireland has supported a constitutional amendment by statewide vote of the people to regulate legal gaming, but now favors an "Activist Courts" strategy, which takes the power away from the legislature and Alabama's citizens and gives full discretion and authority to the Alabama Supreme Court to dictate gaming policy.
• Doesn't acknowledge the hypocrisy of accepting Mississippi Casino money to fight gaming in Alabama.
• Doesn't acknowledge the hypocrisy of advocating a statewide vote to regulate gaming for years, but now wants the courts to do the legislative work and deny the people a vote.
